Today's Giant: Ray Kroc
Ray Kroc, the man who brought McDonald's to the world, is an exceptional figure in the realm of fast food and franchising. His journey from a milkshake machine salesperson to the driving force behind the global ubiquity of McDonald's is truly remarkable. Here are some key lessons from his entrepreneurial style:
1. Persistence and Resilience: Kroc's relentless pursuit of success, even in the face of adversity, played a pivotal role in the growth of McDonald's. Encourage persistence and resilience within your organization, reminding your team that every setback is a setup for a comeback.
2. Standardization and Efficiency: Kroc's emphasis on standardizing operations to ensure consistency and efficiency across all franchises was a game changer. This practice is worth emulating in any business striving for large-scale operation.
3. Visionary Leadership: Kroc's vision went beyond selling fast food; he saw the potential for a brand that could be recognized worldwide. Inspire your leaders to look beyond the immediate and envision the larger potential of your enterprise.
4. People First: Kroc believed that the success of McDonald's was due to the hard work of the people at each franchise. He once said, "Our organization cannot be better than the people in it." Encourage your leaders to invest in their teams, recognizing that their success is the company's success.

Ron's Insights:
"Ray Kroc changed the way we eat, making fast food a staple of American life and exporting it around the world. His focus on systematizing every process and maintaining consistency set the standard for future franchises. This approach, combined with the understanding that success comes from the efforts of every individual in the organization, created a recipe for global domination.
BONUS: One of my favorite business movies is “The Founder” with Michael Keaton. Here is one takeaway I have never heard from anyone else. If you watch the first 15 min, Ray Kroc is going from one small diner to the next trying to sell milkshake machines. Failure after failure is exactly what was needed! It set him up so when he did see a winning combo from the McDonalds brothers he knew it without a doubt! Remember that! We often need failure to understand success!" —Ron Douglas
